How to Check If Your Phone Screen Is Original A

Why Screen Quality Matters After a Repair

A bad replacement screen doesn’t just look worse — it can have dead touch zones, yellow tinting, poor outdoor visibility, and degrade faster. The difference between a ₹1,500 screen and a ₹4,000 screen is real. Here’s how to check what you actually got.

5 Tests Anyone Can Do

1. Touch Response Test

Open any drawing app (Notes on iPhone, Samsung Notes, or Google Keep). Draw continuous circles covering every part of the screen, especially the edges and corners. A good screen registers every stroke smoothly. A bad screen has dead zones — areas where your touch doesn’t register or lines break mid-stroke.

2. Colour Accuracy Check

Open a pure white image (search “white screen test” in your browser). The screen should look evenly white — no yellow patches, pink tints, or blue corners. Then check a pure black image: on an AMOLED screen, pure black should be truly black (pixels off). If you see a faint grey glow on an AMOLED phone, the replacement may be an LCD panel marketed as AMOLED.

3. Brightness Uniformity

Set brightness to maximum and open a solid grey image. Look for uneven patches — brighter spots, darker edges, or light bleeding from the sides. Tilt the screen at an angle. Compatible screens often show colour shifts at sharp angles that OG screens handle better.

4. Oleophobic Coating Test

Put a small drop of water on the screen. On a screen with proper oleophobic (oil-repelling) coating, the water beads up into a tight droplet and slides off easily. On a cheap screen, water spreads flat. This coating is what keeps your screen from getting smudgy with fingerprints — it wears off eventually even on original screens, but a new replacement should have it.

5. Bezel and Fit Inspection

Look at the edges where the screen meets the phone frame. The gap should be even all around — no wider on one side than the other. Press gently near the edges: a properly seated screen doesn’t flex or make clicking sounds. Check that the front camera cutout aligns perfectly with the actual camera.

OEM vs OG vs Compatible — What Do These Terms Mean?

TypeWhat It IsQualityPrice
OEM (Original)Made by or for the phone manufacturer. Same part as what came in the box.Identical to factoryHighest — often only available through authorised centres
OG (Original Grade)Same panel manufacturer (e.g., Samsung Display, BOE) but sold through aftermarket channels. Essentially the same hardware without the brand markup.Near-identical to factory20–40% less than OEM
CompatibleThird-party manufactured panel designed to fit the same phone. Quality varies from excellent to terrible depending on the supplier.Good to poor — depends entirely on the sourceLowest — 40–70% less than OEM

What GADXY uses: OG-grade displays for flagship and mid-range phones (where display quality is critical), high-quality compatible panels for budget models where the price difference matters more. We tell you which type we’re installing before the repair starts.

Red Flags From Any Repair Shop

  • Won’t show you the old part — a confident technician shows you what was removed
  • No written warranty — if they won’t put “90 days” in writing, the part is suspect
  • Price too good to be true — a Galaxy S24 screen for ₹3,000 is not OG-grade, period
  • Refuses to let you watch — doorstep repair eliminates this problem entirely
  • “Original” with no specifics — ask whether it’s OEM, OG, or compatible. If they can’t (or won’t) answer, walk away

What to Do If You Got a Bad Screen

If your replacement screen fails any of the tests above, you have options:

  1. Contact the repair shop immediately — most issues are covered under their warranty if you report within the first few days
  2. Document everything — take photos/videos of the defects (dead zones, colour issues, gaps)
  3. Get a second opinion — another technician can confirm whether the screen is the problem or if there’s an underlying issue
